CAMBRIDGE AND OXFORD
Often termed “Oxbridge,” the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are twin knowledge centers, home to the brightest minds and some of the most stunning architecture in the world. At Oxford, guests can explore the world-famous Bodleian Library and eat lunch in the pub where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien met to discuss their masterpieces in English literature, and at Cambridge, they can stroll the historic streets or perhaps view the college by boat on a punting tour.
Oxford is the city of Dreaming Spires, a distinguished academic excellence for over 900 years, an inspiration to its famous students including President Bill Clinton, and the authors J R R Tolkien, Lewis Carroll and C S Lewis. There is also the choice of visiting Christ Church College, where Harry Potter was filmed, the Bodleian Library and the Sheldonian Theatre. There will be some free time to discover the university town of Oxford at a leisurely pace, perhaps souvenir hunting in Oxford’s famous indoor market or enjoy a coffee in one of the many beautiful cafes.
The elegant city of Cambridge is a university town and the administrative center of the county of Cambridge shire, England. It lies in East Anglia, athwart the River Cam, about 50 miles (80 km) north of London. Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge founded in 1209, which is consistently ranked one of the top five universities in the world. Visit the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, King's College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library. Marvel at the oldest college that still exists, Peterhouse, which dates back to 1284.
We depart in the early morning and first visit Oxford. Your guide will take you to all the most famous attractions and have a good walking tour lasting approximately 45 minutes. You will then have free time to enjoy its famous colleges and town centre while also having an opportunity to explore its original Victorian indoor Market. Entrance to the colleges is not included.
In the afternoon we head over to Cambridge where you will also be given a short walking tour highlighting all the famous historic places there are to see. You will be given time to enjoy the buzz of the local market and also to have lunch or a coffee before being invited to join the guide at a spot of punting!
We return to Hammersmith Underground (Piccadilly, District, Circle and Hammersmith lines) at approximately 19:30hrs where the tour is finished.
